Braille menus introduced at Italian Barista Cafe in Oman
The idea came during the Hand in Hand initiative which is organised every second week of Ramadan, as part of the competition from a team called Enamel Mubsira, so they thought that a menu is needed specifically for the blind.
“They thought that a menu is needed for the blind because they usually enter restaurant, sit there and listen while the menu is read to them,” said Abdullah Al Hadhrami, Marketing Manager for Italian Barista Café.
“So they came to us and asked us for the things they need to get the menu done. So we immediately complied and they took care of the job and prepared the menu,” he added.
He added further that there is a big acceptance with the menu since it made it more efficient for the blind to ‘read’ off the menu using the Braille method instead of listening to their counterparts reading off the list. Al Hadhrami also said that they welcome 10 to 12 blind visitors every week in their café.
