Let’s celebrate the International Coffee Day
In 2014, the Member States of the International Coffee Organization came together and partnered with dozens of associations around the world to create an official International Coffee Day for all countries to celebrate together.
It was decided that the official launch date would be 1 October 2015.
In July, the Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), officially announced that 75 Member States of the ICO and dozens of coffee associations from around the world had joined forces the occasion.
The first International Coffee Day is celebrated today and is launched in Milan, Italy. It coincides with the second day of the 1st Global Coffee Forum’s promoted by ICO.
The final session of the Forum will take place at the Expo Centre of Expo Milano 2015, where the International Coffee Day will also be celebrated.
Within the context of these events, coffee joins hands with charity in an important fund-raising campaign promoted by Oxfam: “Oxfam Coffee4Change”.
Inspired by the Neapolitan “caffè sospeso” tradition – the custom of anonymously buying a coffee that will be drunk by someone who can’t afford to pay for it – the campaign asks people to donate the equivalent price of a cup of coffee to support plantation workers.
