SW China coffee grower gets Rainforest Alliance certification

The Aini Group, a joint-venture with the US’s Starbucks Co, in Yunnan province, announced on June 2 that its Manzhongtian Coffee Farm had passed a verification check of Rainforest Alliance, a sign of approval for its coffee farms in China.
The Rainforest Alliance certification is an internationally accepted symbol of environmental, social and economic sustainability to show that both the business and customers are doing their part for environmental protection.
The group’s farm is in the village of Manzhongtian, near the city of Pu’er, in the “Golden coffee planting belt” which has an average elevation of 1,500 meters above sea level and because coffee often has a longer growth cycle at higher altitudes, Manzhongtian is said to have nutrients, top quality and flavor.
The Rainforest Alliance was founded in 1987 in New York as a nonprofit organization and is the largest, most authoritative certifying body of its kind in the world. Its stated purpose is to conserve tropical forests, biodiversity, and livelihoods by transforming land-use, business, and consumer practices.
