Italian coffee company Massimo Zanetti Beverage Group (MZB Group) has bought the production and distribution network of CECA S.A., a subsidiary of the German Neumann Kaffee Gruppe. Expanding its footprint in the Costa Rican market, MZB will integrate the acquired network to Distribuidora Café Montaña, currently controlled by MZB in Costa Rica. Distribuidora Café Montaña has now become the third roaster of Costa Rica with the acquisition. The production will increase to 206.500 kgs, comprising 13.9% of the local market for both the retail and the food service sectors. MZB Group president Massimo Zanetti said: "With this acquisition our Group will have a chance of further expansion on the market in Costa Rica. Also this time, the integration within MZB Group will take place following the criteria that characterized our operations in the past, without drastic changes in the business model, starting from securing the different product options and the sales network". Distribuidora Café Montaña will add six more brands to its offering, focusing on the country's smaller retailers besides the traditional large distribution chains. Claiming to be the largest private coffee company, MZB, holds some international labels like Segafredo Zanetti, Chock full o'Nuts, Kauai, Hill Bros (USA), and Meira (Finland). It offers varieties of products ranging from coffee to tea, from cocoa to spices.
