Coffee CEO Calling for End to Political Games
Mahoning County Elected Democrats reached out to voters Sunday afternoon at the Canfield Fair.
"[We want to] just talk to the voters and just answer any concerns that people may have," Mahoning County Democratic Chairman Dave Betras said. "We think it's a good idea. People should have access to their office holders."
But is reaching out to voters enough? Many are fed up with partisan politics running the game in Columbus and Washington. Including the CEO of America's leading coffee shop: Starbucks. Starbuck's head-honcho Howard Schultz is calling on fellow CEO's to stop contributing to political campaigns until politicians puts an end to political fighting.
The money has a corrupt influence in politics. So the more money that's poured into a campaign the more corrupting of an influence it has, Betras said.
Schultz ran ads this weekend in a few newspapers saying, We must send the message to today's elected officials...that the time to put citizenship ahead of partisanship is now.
What we have to do is figure out a way to almost publically finance these campaigns to take out the private donations. So we can hear the candidates and what they believe in, Betras said.
Schultz isn't just attacking Washington though. State government is under the gun as well. State Senator Joe Schiavoni (D)-33rd District, said it's tough in Columbus right now because republicans hold all the cards.
They have no reason to work with you unless they just wanted to be a nice guy, Schiavoni said. If they want to pass a bill, they can pass the bill with or without your support.
Schultz called on more than 100 other CEOs to stop contributing. He is holding a phone forum Tuesday to further his point.
