Tea –Ultimate Anti-Crisis Drink ...
Tea appears to be the ultimate “anti-crisis” drink in Russia. According to the Center for the Development of National Alcohol Policy, in the first two months of this year Russians drank 4.8% less alcohol than in the same period last year. As for tea, in 2009 people drink roughly the same amount as in 2008 – around 176,000 tons. Imports of that drink may even increase. Part of it will be exported to CIS countries in Russian packaging. Russians have significantly cut their coffee consumption to around 115,000 tons, with around 80% of Russians favoring instant coffee. If Russians' income fall and commodity prices rise, people will forego juice and soda pop for cheaper stuff, for example, tea.
